Personal Care Services: Dignified Support for Everyday Living

Personal Care Services: Dignified Support for Everyday Living
At Family Support Care, we understand that personal care is deeply personal. It requires not only skill but also profound respect, patience, and empathy. Our Personal Care Services are designed to help individuals maintain hygiene, health, and dignity while remaining in the comfort of their own home.

Unlike clinical nursing tasks, personal care focuses on the essential daily activities that keep a person clean, comfortable, and confident. Our trained, compassionate aides work with each client to provide gentle assistance exactly where needed—no more, no less—preserving independence wherever possible.

Our Personal Care services include:

🚿 Bathing & Shower Assistance
We provide safe, respectful help with:

Bed baths, sponge baths, tub baths, or showering

Adjusting water temperature for safety and comfort

Ensuring privacy and modesty throughout the process

Post-bath drying, lotion application, and skin inspection for early signs of irritation or breakdown

🪥 Oral Hygiene & Grooming
Daily grooming supports both health and self-esteem. We assist with:

Brushing teeth, denture care, and flossing

Shaving (electric or safety razors with supervision)

Hair combing, styling, and basic scalp care

Nail filing (non-diabetic clients only; diabetic nail care is provided under nursing supervision)

Applying deodorant, powder, or lotions as preferred

👕 Dressing & Undressing
We help clients start and end their day with dignity by:

Selecting appropriate, seasonally suitable clothing

Assisting with buttoning, zipping, fastening, and tying

Helping with adaptive clothing or orthopedic garments

Respecting personal style and color preferences

🚽 Toileting & Incontinence Care
With sensitivity and professionalism, we assist with:

Getting on and off the toilet, commode, or bedpan

Cleaning and perineal hygiene

Changing absorbent briefs, pads, or undergarments

Emptying and cleaning bedpans or urinals

Odor control and discreet disposal of supplies

🚶 Mobility & Transfer Assistance
Preventing falls is a top priority. We help clients move safely by:

Assisting with sitting, standing, and walking (with or without a walker or cane)

Transferring between bed, chair, wheelchair, and toilet

Repositioning in bed or a chair to prevent pressure sores and improve circulation

Using gait belts, transfer boards, or lifts as needed (following safety training)

🍽️ Feeding & Eating Support
Mealtime should be nourishing and enjoyable. We provide:

Help with cutting food, opening containers, and bringing utensils to mouth

Encouragement and pacing to prevent choking or aspiration

Monitoring food and fluid intake to report changes in appetite or swallowing difficulty

Creating a calm, pleasant dining environment

🩹 Simple Skin & Foot Care (Non-Wound)
We help maintain skin integrity and comfort by:

Applying non-medicated lotions and powders

Washing and drying feet carefully (diabetic foot care requires nursing assessment)

Observing for redness, bruising, or pressure areas and reporting to our nursing team

💊 Medication Reminders (Non-Administration)
While only licensed nurses can administer medications, our personal care aides can:

Remind clients when it is time to take their own medications

Help open medication containers or blister packs

Read labels aloud for verification

Document that a reminder was given (client self-administers)
